Leland City Club
www.lelandcityclub.net

When Detroit's world famous Leland City Club needed a new web site, they called on Jeff.

Leland City Club has enjoyed a rich history in the world of Rock and Roll. First opening in 1983, the club has played host to a number of up and coming bands. Just a few of the names that have passed through the halls of this legendary club are Depeche Mode, the Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Public Enemy, Rob Zombie, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson.

The owner of City Club wanted a site that captured the essence of the club: gritty and grimy, yet flashy and hip at the same time, and true to the rich history of the venue. And of course they wanted the latest and greatest that a web site could offer them, including a sophisticated content management system, a multi-category photo gallery, event listings, and link pages, all database driven, and an interactive discussion forum for their visitors as well. Jeff delivered.

In addition to the cutting edge graphical design of the site and back-end coding, Jeff also helped the client research and locate content for the site, including finding a number of vintage photographs and "retro" marketing literature related to the famous venue and the building it is located in (including some dating back to the building's construction in the 1920s!)

Technology: The site was developed in PHP and includes a number of attention-grabbing visual features such as dynamically rotating graphics and a "cyber-tech" looking Flash intro. A MySQL database back-end was created to handle the photo gallery, which was coded completely from scratch to meet the client's specific needs. The MySQL back-end also supports the client maintainable events listings (with photos), news pages, link exchange, newsletter subscription management, and discussion forums. A comprehensive and easy to use content management system (CMS) was custom designed for the client, allowing them to easily manage all of the above features of the site. The photo gallery portion of the content management system not only allows the client to post photos to the gallery (sorted and categorized by event, photographer, and date), but automatically resizes and crops the photographs for the client as well.
